Tenía ojos grandes y color miel, pestañas medianas y casi no tenía cejas.

essay the pudding like a night on the sea

Essay on "The pudding like a night on the sea"

"The Pudding like a night on the sea" by Ann Cameron, is about a father who put his sons, Huey and Julian, into a challenge, to see if he could trust them.
Firstly the father made a pudding for his wife, later on he went to take a nap and he prohibited his sons to eat it, and he asked them to take care of it. With this challenge the father wanted to see if he could trust his sons on something little, so as he could know if he could trust them on something bigger or more important.

Julian and Huey ate the pudding. When the father woke up he noticed what they had done and he said that there would be some beating and whipping, the two kids thought that his father was going to hit them, but actually he was talking about cooking. He wanted them to make a new pudding. In the first place it shows the children were unfair to their father, but after they regretted what they had done, the father knew that after all, they learned the lesson and he could trust them. The father's method was fair because for example if you break something it is just to repair it.

As a conclusion the father realised that even though his sons made a mistake the kids were regretful and the accepted the punishment. The next time they won't do it, and that he could trust them.

An essay on The Son's Veto

Our L/L writing teacher has asked us to write an literary essay on a book we have already read in class.

An essay on The Son's Veto

The Son's Veto, by Thomas Hardy, is about the life of a poor and uneducated lady called Sophy, who has to decide between love or convenience. The writer, in the story, discusses how social class has an influence on life, for example marriage and education.

At the beggining of the story Sophy is a poor and uneducated lady who works for Mr. Twycott, a rich educated man. When his wife died he asked Sophy to marry him. In reality Sophy loves the gardener Sam, who was poor, but she marries Twycott. That is an example of the story where because of money convenience Sophy marries the one he does not love.

In the case of education Sophy forms a family in which her husband and her son has a good education and she does not. That is why when Mr. Twycott marries Sophy he moves to another place where nobody know's her. Another example is when Randolph, Sophy's son, does not want her to go to his school's mettings, because of her bad pronunciation.

Finally the last theme the writer introduces is the difference of social classes. An example of the story is when Twycott dies, Sophy is alone and one day she sees Sam and deciedes to ask Randolph. He vetoes that to her mom saying that she can not marry Sam because he is a poor man. Here he shows that social class sometimes decides for people.

Well these are three examples the writer uses to explain those themes and show how social class has an influence on life, for example marriage and education. This book made me  realise how your life sometimes depends on the money you have.

BIOMA: DESIERTO

                               Desiertos Americanos

A short story - The Trip

After reading the short story the son's Veto our teacher asked us to write one including a situation of tension between a mother and her son or a conflict of social classes. It's genere must be drama and it's tone tragic, sad or melancholic.

The Trip

Once in 1998 it occurred a strange event, it was in Paris were an 18-year-old girl disappeared, her name was Rebeca. She was a rich girl whose mother was called Marta, a rich widow lady who inherited all her money from her husband. They live in London.

One day Rebaca and her mother went to Paris in a work trip and to meet some friends of Rebeca's father because Marta wanted Rebeca to marry their friend's son, Luck, although her daughter didn't know it. In Paris Rebeca went for a walk when she met Mat, a French middle-class 19-years-old man who was a tour guide of the Eiffel tower. Instantly they both fell in love with each other. When Rebecca went home her mother was waiting her with a beautiful red dress. Rebeca was about to tell Marta about Mat when her mother told her that she wanted her to marry Luck. Everything changed in Rebeca's mood, she was very happy and in two seconds she was very angry at her mom. She refused to marry Luck and told her mother about Mat. Her mother made their luggage and obligated her to get into the first plane to London, to their house.

At their home Marta shouted at her daughter.
-"What is going on in your mind!? How can you imagine marrying that poor guy? You'll never see him again!"
Without saying anything Rebeca went to her room crying, she was angry at her mom. As you could imagine Marta was only interested in money she didn't care about anything else, but she also loved her daughter.

That night Rebeca planned with Mat to meet in the Eiffel tower. Mat didn't know her mother did not know about it. In the morning Rebeca left to Paris. Marta was regretful so she took her daughter the breakfast, when she entered the room she wasn't there and on the bed laid a paper which said PARIS=6:30. She was desperate so she went to the airport.

Rebeca was waiting for Mat at the Eiffel tower when four men kidnapped her and took her who knows where. Marta went to the tower but she didn't see her daughter so she started asking who Mat was. A nice guy was sitting there so she asked him:
-"What's your name?"
-"Mat", he answered.
-"So tell me, do you know where my daughter Rebeca is?", she asked.
-"I do not know", he said, "we had planned to meet here, but she told me you knew"

Marta was very angry and although she knew Mat had nothing to do with the missing of her daughter, she said to him that she would never find forgive him about this.

This is a song I thought it would represent Marta's fellings after losing her daughter
